Abstract
Transitional justice aims at supporting the transition of a society that has recently known atrocity, impunity, and blatant disregards of the sancrosanctity of fundamental rights from a state of turmoil to a state of social peace. The end of the Second World War found Greece at a crossroad between the quest for justice vis-à-vis the atrocity crimes of Hitlerites and collaborationists and the political exigencies of the emerging Cold War. Within the framework of the present research the methodology and doctrines of transitional justice will be used in order to analyse, assess, and critically re-evaluate the truncated project of Greek post-war justice based on a discussion about Greece’s international legal obligations, the domestic framework of prosecution, and the policies of its implementation. The presentation will conclude with certain case studies and three arguments about the stagnated transition of Greek society from atrocity to normality, peace, and justice.
